BMORE Design Week 2026 Recap: Making Space for Failure

BMORE Design Week 2026 brought Baltimore’s creative community together to embrace experimentation and learn from failure.

From October 16 to 23, AIGA Baltimore brought the Baltimore community together for another year of BMORE Design Week. This year’s theme, Make, Break, Repeat: Failing Forward, encouraged creatives to embrace experimentation and learn from the process.

We kicked things off on October 16 at Peabody Heights Brewery, where local creatives gathered to reconnect and celebrate the start of Design Week.

On October 19, Samantha Frost explored the connection between graphic design and music production at Towson University’s StarTUp Armory. Attendees learned how grid systems could be used to structure visual layouts and drum patterns. Later that evening, Frances Miller led a virtual session on using LinkedIn to build professional relationships and uncover career opportunities beyond traditional job listings.

On October 20, we headed to the Baltimore Museum of Industry for an afternoon of conversations about creative leadership and artificial intelligence. MiMi Blanchard explored how creatives can lead with confidence while establishing healthy boundaries. Michael Jovel discussed how human judgment and creative thinking remain valuable as AI continues to reshape the design industry.

On October 21, Matthew Mayer and Jacob DeGeal brought typography to life at the University of Baltimore. Matthew shared his process of reviving a historic Baltimore typeface for letterpress printing, while Jacob demonstrated how digital typography could become a modular stencil system. Attendees also had the opportunity to experiment with printmaking.

The following evening, Sarah Cornejo encouraged attendees to rethink their approach to branding during a virtual session focused on building an authentic identity through personal experiences and cultural backgrounds.

On October 22, Barney Abramson and Alisha Abramson of Thriving Creatively addressed the emotional challenges of building a creative career. Their virtual conversation offered practical guidance on managing burnout and setting boundaries while pursuing meaningful work.

We wrapped up Design Week on October 23 at Union Craft Brewing, bringing the community together once more to reflect on the week and celebrate the people who made it possible.

Thank you to our speakers and everyone who joined us throughout BMORE Design Week 2026. Special thanks to our volunteers for helping bring this year’s programming to life.

We look forward to seeing you next year!
