Instructional Support Specialist: Studio Art

The Department of Art at St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting applications for the position of Instructional Support Specialist: Studio Art. This is a full-time contingent position for a term of two years (with the possibility of renewal) and an annual salary of $50,000 – $54,000 with limited benefits. Reporting to the Art program Chair, the candidate works directly with faculty and students and must possess excellent professional demeanor, interpersonal communication and writing skills. Primary job responsibilities include teaching one course per semester in the graphic design area, oversee basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment and studio facilities for drawing, painting, printmaking, animation, photography, capstone studios, digital printing lab and auxiliary spaces. Additional responsibilities include ordering art supplies, budget tracking and bookkeeping, the development and enforcement of health and safety policies, creating marketing materials and communications for Art department events and providing general administrative support as directed by the program Chair. Applicants must be available and capable of supervising students, exhibition installations, and managing infrequent evening and Saturday events such as for open drawing sessions and admissions open houses.

Qualifications

BA/BFA in studio art, or MFA, preferably with a concentration in graphic design or related field. Ability to work independently and problem solve in a studio art context; good interpersonal, communication and writing ability; skill and experience with exhibition installation, operating knowledge of standard AV teaching equipment. Ability to teach and supervise safe use of basic woodworking power tools. Must have proficient knowledge of Adobe Bridge, Photoshop and Illustrator, MS Office, and Google Drive software. Expertise in color management, and fine art inkjet printing. Familiarity or willingness to be trained with wet darkroom and photography digital and common art studio equipment.
