Join us for a day of creative discovery for a cause. Select from 10 workshops held at studios around Baltimore, then get your dancing shoes on for the Design Week closing party where the discovery will continue with local makers, restaurants, drinks and entertainment.
All proceeds will be donated to Linda Johnson Pearson, a friend of the design community, to help in her fight with cancer.
Closing Party
Celebrate the close of Design Week with an amazing evening at Price Modern. Ashleigh Axios, former Creative Director at the White House, and letterer and illustrator Mary Kate McDevitt will give presentations, followed by live music music from Baltimore's own Oslo.
Enjoy drinks compliments of Union Craft Brewing with more to be announced! As well as food from The Food Market,Corner Charcuterie Bar, Cosima, Colette and The Charmery. We will also host a Makers Market and Silent Auction during the event, so come prepared to shop! And, of course, no party is complete without a Photo Booth from Pixilated!

HANDS: Paper Cuts
Master papercut artist Annie Howe will teach the basic technique of papercutting and how to create your very own custom papercuts in this hands-on, two-hour workshop. Participants leave with at least one finished papercut design and the know-how to continue papercutting at home. *To those with allergies, there is a cat at this location.

Ink Press Productions will lead participants in exploring materials and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind blank book of their very own, using scrap and up-cycled materials.

HANDS: Hand Lettering
Come explore old and new hand lettering techniques from visual artist Jeremy Friend, as this art form gains a resurgence in popularity. Participants will discuss and apply both basic and advanced methods in hand lettering to produce beautiful, hand rendered phrases and single word pieces. Tools will include brush pens, ink, and pencil on paper. Participants will also learn refinement techniques using tracing paper and pencil. *To those with allergies, there is a cat at this location.

Baltimore Academy of Illustration will have two instructors present, providing an introduction to various techniques and practices associated with the art of illustration. Think of it as a crash course in conceptual thinking and execution of technique while communicating ideas visually. Attendees are encouraged to bring sketchbooks and drawing utensils and the school will provide materials if needed.

BIZ: Sometimes, I Work in a Bar: Using Mobile Apps to Work Away from the Desk
Illustrator and designer Greg Jericho will demonstrate how he incorporates apps into his professional workflow. He’ll walk participants through his favorite tools, demonstrating how he creates sketches, wireframes, and digital paintings, all on the go. Bring your preferred iOS/Android device and participate in an actual design project, complete with client instructions and ideas!
