Chanda (she/her) is a graphic designer based in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Towson University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Chanda is passionate about the cultural and social impact of design and how it can create inclusive experiences for people from all walks of life. She works as a Communications Specialist, Senior Designer at LMD Agency in Laurel, MD. In her free time, you might find her illustrating on her iPad, listening to K-pop music, or watching a Bollywood movie with either some cold brew coffee or bubble tea in hand.

What’s your biggest challenge as a designer or creative?

The design world and it’s tools are constantly changing. From user experience to inclusivity to AI, it is challenging to stay on top of these new tools and the trends that come with them. With my many creative interests, I hope to better understand these tools and create the designs I envision.

What’s your favorite quote/philosophy?

Life is too short for hatred.

What are your top 3 favorite books or movies? (doesn’t have to be design-related)

  • Almond (novel) by Sohn Won-pyung
  • Harry Potter (books and movies). I rewatch the movies all the time and I’m having a Harry Potter bookclub with my niece.
  • The Shack (novel) by William P. Young

What’s on your desk that you could not live without?

  • Headphones to listen to true-crime podcasts and a wide variety of music
  • Small journal to jot down random to-do’s, design ideas, and sketches
  • Cold Brew coffee

What sparks creativity for you?

I have always loved learning about different cultures and they are a constant source of inspiration for me. Being Indian, I’ve grown up with a vibrant culture and every aspect of it influences me as a designer. I hope to keep learning about as many different cultures as I can. Working primarily from home sometimes puts me in a rut, so I love going to cafes, museums, and outdoor areas, like the Baltimore Harbor, for a change of scenery. My husband and I also got a puppy in December 2022 and he definitely keeps me on my toes.

What are some of your hobbies?

Illustrating on my ipad, reading, dancing, listening to all different kinds of music, travel, and rewatching some of my favorite shows like Friends and The Office.
