AIGA Baltimore Design Week 2018

This year’s AIGA Baltimore Design Week is an exploration of topics related to the boundaries – real and artificial – that constrain, separate, protect, and define us. As designers, as Baltimoreans, and as people.

Join us, along with luminaries from Baltimore’s academic and design communities, for a series of events and discussions in October as we look back at developments that shaped Baltimore design over the last year, and look ahead to what’s next. See the full week of events here.

Free for students – $15 General public – $10 AIA or AIGA members

Presented by AIA Baltimore & AIGA Baltimore as part of Design Month 2017
The Parkway Theatre’s unique architecture and design approach celebrates the building’s 100 years of opulence, decay, and reinvention. The stunning transformation of this grand theater contrasts modern interventions with a century of history, resulting in a ‘rescued ruin’ where layers of the past coexist with the future.

Station North offers a mixture of free street parking, metered parking, and public parking lots in close proximity to the SNF Parkway. Please consult the map for detailed location of lots. If you choose to drive, please allow additional time for parking.

Design on the Go: Rethink how and where you work

Unlock your creativity on the go with mobile apps! Illustrator and graphic designer Greg Jericho demonstrates how he uses apps to edit images, create vector graphics, and develop layouts while away from his studio.

He’ll take us on a tour of his favorite apps before guiding us through a complete mobile-to-desktop workflow of an actual project he designed on the go.

Attendees who wish to participate in the workflow exercise are advised to have an iOS/Android device with the following apps installed:

  • Sketchbook
  • Procreate

…and Adobe:

  • Capture CC
  • Creative Cloud
  • Illustrator Draw
  • Photoshop Mix
  • Comp CC (iOS only)

(Laptop optional, if you’d like to try out the mobile-to-desktop workflow.)

Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Arrive on time for a live demo of the letterpress in action!

This event is part of Baltimore Innovation Week.

The Baltimore Academy of Illustration (BAI) is an unaccredited, private institution with one goal in mind: to teach artists who want to be illustrators how to become illustrators. Unlike traditional art schools, BAI focuses specifically on illustration. BAI offers students of all economic levels the opportunity to receive high-quality, college-level instruction. We welcome adult continuing education students, high school students who want to sample college-level illustration courses, and traditional college-age students. BAI instructors are working illustrators and experienced educators with a variety of complementary experiences and teaching philosophies. A main tenet of BAI instruction is preparation for professional illustration work by offering challenging assignments and critiques, along with practical knowledge to forge a career in illustration.

Enrollment for the spring 2016 semester is open now. Sign up for BAI’s newsletter for upcoming events and announcements. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
